Types Of Homicide Charges:

  • Murder
    • Murder in the First Degree (for example, the killing of another with intent, or during the commission of certain felonies) or Murder in the Second Degree.  Range of punishment can be up to life in prison, life in prison without the possibility of parole (LWOP), or even the death penalty.

    • When a homicide is committed in a lawful manner, such as an accident occurring from a lawful act.
  • Justifiable Homicide
    • The killing of a person that allows the act to be seen in law as no criminal guilt, such as self-defense.
